About

Welcome to Hunt & Gather Home!  My name is Megan, and I’m the hunter-gatherer behind this historic preservation and design business and blog.

Hunt and Gather Home began in 2012 as a blog and a fun way for me to document my weekend antiquing trips and design adventures in my own home. It wasn’t long before I began receiving requests from friends to scout out vintage pieces and pick paint colors for their homes. I loved helping them pull together rooms that exuded both comfort and style, where real life could happen.

In 2015, I decided to leave my job as the director of our city’s historic preservation commission and pursue my dream of working hands-on with historic structures. Combining a professional background in historic preservation (I hold an M.F.A. in historic preservation and an M.A. in architectural history from SCAD) with a natural talent for design, Hunt & Gather Home, LLC was born. I can now see a project through from beginning to end, developing a relationship with the owner and bringing them through the research, restoration, and design process. Offering preservation consulting for historic structures and design consultation for homes of any age, Hunt & Gather Home exists to tell the story of a place by revealing and restoring the beauty of its original architectural features and creating spaces that nurture the present and inspire the future through their connection with the past. I call this inspiring blend of old and new the art of old house living.

I invite you to follow along as I continue to document my design and preservation projects on the blog and more often nowadays on Instagram @huntandgatherhome. I hope that my writing and photos reflect the comfort, connection, and inspiration I find in the places I love to restore, create, and reimagine.
